The Beholder is a gallery devoted to showing and promoting emerging and mid-career contemporary artists. I started the site in 2005 with 15 artists and it has grown to over 70 in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Our mission is to use the reach of the internet to attract a wider audience for artists, and to encourage new collectors to become involved with owning and enjoying original art.
This year, we've expanded the site to include artists who sell work on their own without any commission taken by the gallery. This is a huge step in connecting artists directly with their collectors, and really takes us beyond gallery status into something new entirely. Read on to find out more about how it works.
I've been really inspired over the last few years not only by what artists are creating, but how many people are first-time buyers of original art. I know there are many more of you out there who have yet to take the plunge, and I hope you enjoy looking and learning as much as I do. Please don't hesitate to call or write with questions... a big part of the fun is learning about how art is created, how pricing works, and what makes it special to others.
Thanks for looking!
