About the Artist
Kari Orvik was born in Canada and moved to the Bay Area from Alaska. After receiving her B.A. in Comparative Literature from Stanford University, she spent a year living and teaching in Krakow, Poland, while taking courses in photography at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since then she has lived and worked in San Francisco, showing work in various venues, including Space Gallery, Adobe Books, and Melting Point Gallery, as well as collaborating with organizations to create public portraiture projects. Photography is part of her ongoing practice of trying to stay in the present moment, despite the pull of wanting to be in another time and place.
