About the Artist
Christopher Reiger’s current series of mixed media paintings are colorful, reactionary works. The biomorphic landscapes are borne of hysterical transcendentalism, a desperate mode characterized by a polarized political climate, fundamentalist fervor and a renewed Romanticism. The hallucinatory paintings are sometimes foreboding, sometimes joyous.
Originally from rural Virginia, Christopher Reiger is an artist and writer currently living and working in New York City. He studied at the School of Visual Arts, where he obtained a MFA in 2002. His artwork is chiefly concerned with exploring contemporary constructions of nature, particularly the relationship of modern man to his animal armature and to the physical environment we inhabit and manipulate.
