About the Artist
Aysen Aycan Orhon was born in Adapazari, Turkey and studied fine arts at Marmara University in Istanbul. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer in Istanbul. After relocating to New England in 2000, she has devoted herself to painting full time.
“My works deal with various levels of experiences I go through in life. I try to interpret some of these experiences, and populate the canvas with visual manifestations of my interpretations. Along the way, I realized that my paintings help me communicate with other people more than any other means of communication; and that keeps me going. Once I start working, the ‘message’ melts into the exploration process and becomes more subliminal. As a result of intuitive experimentation, a method comes out, which then becomes the visual language for a particular series.
I invite the viewer to connect with my works on a truly visual basis and explore what they see. For those who encounter a story between the brush strokes and colors, I would say, enjoy the experience.”
