About the Artist
Kristine Rolke Smith has degrees in art and
film from the University of Notre Dame and in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, where she was awarded a merit grant. She paints intuitively and finds her work aligned in feeling with contemporary romanticism. Two compelling series are represented here. In the first series, each painting was inspired by a specific scent; the resulting image captures the mood the perfume evoked. In the second series, she painted from imagination and memory, finding the ocean to be symbolic, and the horizon, the meeting of the world with its atmosphere, significant. When not working, Kristie can often be found surfing off of the Northern California coast.
